5 TIPS FOR BRINGING HOME BABY

Aug 29th 2019

When the new baby is ready to come home, it’s an adjustment (a fun one, but still an adjustment) for the entire family, especially the new big siblings. With the baby getting a lot of attention and the general flow of the house changed a little, they often have a hard time getting used to the new little one. So, to ease them into being big siblings, we’ve rounded up a few fun tips and ideas for bringing home baby!

1. Organize: Put toys, dolls, stuffed animals, and more, in separate bins or storage containers – one for the big siblings, and one for the baby. We love the idea of using one of our fun personalized buckets so the little kids can feel special and have their own space to keep their things, and the baby has their own space too. It’ll keep toy fights and mix-ups to a minimum, and the siblings will feel important if their job is always to pick up and put away their toys in their very own bucket.

2. Include the little ones in the planning: Make the baby process as fun as possible even before she or he arrives. Let the little ones help out deciding names or telling your family members the big news. We love how BBH customer Betsy’s family included the siblings in the gender reveal cake cutting; it made the news that much more exciting since the whole family was involved!

3. Keep your routines: Try and keep routines in place (bedtime, naps, activities) so that there isn’t too much adjustment. But be sure to schedule in some special time for family movie nights, bedtime stories, fun crafts, and other activities so the new family enjoys spending time all together!

4. Update the family photo: Since the family has expanded, it’s the perfect time to update that family photo! These sibling shirts make adorable outfits for capturing the big and little siblings together for the first time.

5. Let the siblings be involved: Whether it’s helping out with meals, baths, or with chores around the house, including them in the little things to allow them to feel apart of the big responsibility of the baby.
